Dan Courtney
The compositions of Dan Courtney of Maulin are one of the most important bodies of work in the Iveragh song repertoire of the twentieth century. The bulk of the compositions were given to the Binneas Collection by Kathleen & Kevin Courtney, Maulin, and the extended Courtney family and for that I am forever grateful. I have collected other writings and compositions of Courtney’s in the wider community and from archive newspaper sources and Oireachtas competition files. In his compositions he captured the whole gamut of life and important local events. Local hunts, The Civil war, love and loss, otherworldly happenings, the crash landing of a German plane for example are all captured in his writings.
