Jackie Kennedy (Áthán Buí/Aghanboy)
The recordings below where donated to the Binneas Collection by Julian and Beryl Stracey ‘Cuas Crome’. They were excellent set-dancers and and taught set-dancing in Portmagee Community Centre. They played a big part in the organisation of the Portmagee set-Dancing weekend. The recordings were made by the Schoolmaster of Emlaghpeiste School Willie O’Neill, sometime around the late 1970’s. He visited the house of local musician Jackie Kennedy and recorded some of the gentleman’s music so he could play it to the children in the school.
Jackie’s music harks back to the older traditional music of the area, prior to the influence of commercial recordings and the influence of radio.
