The John O’Donnell Recordings

These recordings were made by Matt Joe O’Neill (Deelis). John O’Donnell (Bahaghs) playing six figures of the ‘South Kerry’ Set. John explains and sings an amusing song ‘Paddy Murray’s Pet Lamb’ in which he' ‘had a hand’ in its composition. The song describes a series of card games were the pet lamb was the prize.

John was a talented accordion player and had a stock of good tunes to draw from. He was also an accomplished dancer for the set, a talent which aided him in his playing. He was the composer of a number of songs from the area including, ‘The Turf Machine, and others.
