Marion & Kathleen McCann

Kathleen and Marion McCann come from Boheeshill in the Electoral Division of Curraghbeg. Their family residence is close to the road from Glencar that leads through the mountain pass known as the Bealach Óisín (Ballaghisheen). This road was one of the primary trade routes into the western end of the Iveragh peninsula in times past and was also part of the butter route. The sisters are ‘song carriers’ in the truest sense. Their unique style of singing and their pure delivery of a song is a wonderful experience. They sing regularly at mass and host an annual singing session in the Gleneagle Hotel as part of ‘The Gathering Festival’. They have been very generous to the Binneas Collection with their knowledge, history and songs and I am very grateful.
