Paddy O'Sullivan (Moulcore)
Paddy ‘Moulcore’ O’Sullivan was the last in an unbroken line of musicians to the older music tradition of Iveragh. The music had been handed down from the previous generation. He was a Grandson of Eugene O’Sullivan and learned to play the fiddle from him. He grew up surround by music, His father and Mother both played. His Father Patrick, was a postman and Paddy followed him in this trade. There is a song in the Binneas Collection titled ‘The Bunadreen Ambush’, that recounts an incident were Patrick had the post taken from him at gunpoint by masked IRA men. The local R.I.C came seeking information about the incident and were ambushed at Bunadreen.
Paddy was also a fine accordion player and played at many local house dances with his cousin Eugie O’Shea who lived a few miles away in Cois Commeragh. Paddy ceased playing music in the late 1990’s following an injury which made it difficult for him to play.
