At the approach of the millennium, predictions of a catastrophic break down of all things technical was expected. The ‘bug’ was a potential for computers or software to misinterpret a year after 1999. Doom merchants forecast a complete breakdown of society due to electrical and communication grids shutting down and even the threat of nuclear missiles spontaneously launching.
