Tim Dennehy
Tim Dennehy was born in Ballinskelligs and later' the family moved to nearby Cahersiveen. Both his parents sang and were inheritors of a huge store of songs and stories in the Irish language. Tim's mother, Nora Kelly from Cill Rialaig, had developed the custom of constantly singing as she went about her daily chores and this left an indelible mark.
He spent a number of years working in Dublin and then moved to Co. Clare.
I first became acquainted with Tim’s singing when I stayed at Mannix point Camp site in October 2001, I was the only person on the campsite at the time. The nights were cold and blustery and the turf fire in the campers sitting room was very welcome. the was a tape player in the sitting room and a box of tapes next to it. I put on the tape ‘A Thimbleful of Song’ and listened to it whilst lying on the rack with my eyes closed. This was the first time I had heard any of Sigerson Cliffords compositions and was enchanted by the story of the ‘Tinker’s Daughter’. The next day I went to enquire in the library in Cahersiveen about other writings of Sigerson Clifford. Tim has recorded numerous pieces of Sigerson Clifford’s works and are available on his CDs.
