Welcome to Cahirciveen
Here’s Cead Mile Failte from Cahirciveen
To the Mayor of New Jersey we hold in esteem.
Your father, God rest him, who fought for the green
Was not slow to embrace glorious 1916
He was faithful and true to the oath that he took,
And with his two brothers, to the Republic he stuck.
Neither favour nor bribe from the traitor he took,
To the rifle of freedom his shoulder he put.
We’re all glad to meet you, it goes without saying,
For yourself and your country we sure will be praying,
In the great USA where our sons can be found,
May you step into Congress, or be President crowned
These are our fond wishes, they are true, we shout loud,
Many thanks for your Plaque, of which we are proud.
May your stay here in IRELAND be full of good cheer,
May the friends who are with you, next year reappear.
We pray thee, St. Patrick, and Bridget as well,
That our land will be heaven instead of a hell
When the dark scowling stranger and his agents galore
Are banished forever from Erin’s green shore.
